The temple was dedicated to the main god Horus, who was identified as Apollo according to the Greek interpretation. It is one of the best preserved shrines in Egypt.

However, this temple has a special feature that resulted from the local worship in the place, as people worshipped two local gods, Sobek and Horus with the falcon head. The twin temples were originally carved out of the mountains during the reign of King Ramesses II in the 13th century BC, as a permanent monument to him and Queen Nefertari, commemorating his victory at the Battle of Kadesh. However, in 1960, the entire complex was relocated to an artificial hill made of a dome structure, above the reservoir of the Aswan High Dam.

Temple of Philae.

Philae Temple was located before its rescue on Philae Island, which was drowned after the construction of the High Dam. The name Philae means (beloved) in ancient Greek. The temple was dedicated to the worship of the goddess Isis, the protective goddess, and inside the temple there are some buildings dedicated to the worship of the goddess Hathor, the goddess of music.

The High Dam.

It was built by the Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser that aimed to control the Nile floods that used to come annually and drown many agricultural lands. The High Dam is considered one of the facilities of great benefit because of the control it achieved in the Nile waters, so that Egypt became an agricultural country with different types throughout the year, and it also protected Egypt from the dangers of flooding.

The unfinished obelisk.

It is located in an ancient quarry used by the Pharaohs to extract very hard flint stones to build giant and strong temples that are not affected by the factors of time. There is the obelisk that was not completed due to some technical defects and the impossibility of its use, and it was intended for Queen Hatshepsut. This obelisk was supposed to be in the Karnak Temple, but it was left as it was, giving us a good idea and telling us that the Egyptian obelisks were cut from a single stone block.
